Dr.Chris Steele

skin cancer preventionDoctor Chris Steele MBE is the ”resident doctor” on the popular ITV This Morning programme. He appeared on the very first show twenty years ago and still appears each week. Chris who qualified as a doctor in l968 also writes for both Woman Magazine and Top Sante.

Perhaps more than any other clinician, he had pioneered the use of the television and internet mediums to inform and educate the general public on a whole range of health matters. Live breast and testicular self-examination videos were introduced by Chis on youtube.com. He also produced a weight loss system for the This Morning programme in 1989. Over 150,000 viewers subsequently requested details.

A proud Dad, Chris will be looking on at the Beijing Olympics, his son Andrew having been selected to run in both the 400 metres and 400 metres relay.

Once he had learned of the aims and objectives of the charity, Chris was very keen to get involved. At a meeting at the ITV studios in July, he confirmed that interest and he will be working with the SKCIN Management Committee in the months ahead to raise skin cancer awareness nationwide

Ryan Sidebottom

cancer typesThe charity’s first Patron, Ryan has always been keen about people covering up in the sun ever since encountering problems when playing in Australia. As a youngster after playing in a two-day match he was taken ill – and the conditions throughout – overcast ! The Yorkshireman has another reason – his father Arnold Sidebottom who also played cricket for England had skin cancer during his playing career.

A left arm fast-medium bowler, Ryan played his first Test match against Pakistan in 2001 and failed to take a wicket. He was not selected for England for a further six years but in 2007 on his come-back he took four wickets Since then he has become one of England’s top pacemen.

He made his debut for Yorkshire in 1997 and left the county to join Notts at the end of 2003.At Notts Ryan took 50 wickets in both th 2005 and 2006 seasons. Recently married Ryan lives at Tollerton.

Gary Wolstenholme

melanoma ukEngland’s most capped amateur golfer Gary has strong views on the need to create greater awareness of the dangers of over exposure to the sun. When asked to feature on  campaign posters targeting over 1 million English club golfers about the problems of over exposure, he was pleased to participate. (See English Golf Unions SKCIN and Uvistat  Combine To Great Effect.)

Gary will help to spread the word as he competes at home and abroad. Having toured Australia with the England team in January, Gary has moved from Leicestershire to Cumbria to look after his mother.  Aged 47 and a committed supporter of youth development within the amateur game, he has played more than 200 times for England and in no less than six Walker Cup matches – a remarkable record.
