Skcin Leads a UK Skin Cancer Collaboration...
In March 2009 Skcin hosted a unique Skin Cancer Forum attended by 120 specially invited delegates – all with an interest in skin cancer including clinicians, educationalists, environmental health professionals and all related charities across the UK.

The objective which we are proud to say we feel we have made the first steps in achieving was to establish a UK Skin Cancer Collaboration - to end the fragmentation that surrounds the subject to create a united voice and task force for the purpose of lobbying government in order to bring about significant change – change that will mean that the general public are far better educated about the dangers of over-exposure to the sun.

Having had time to discuss and reflect upon many of the issues raised at the forum, the foundation for proposed future campaigns must be “ education “ with a focus on two key areas:-
1. To ensure that the children of today and tomorrow are suitably educated via the school curriculum and the parenting process, to mark the beginning of a change in attitude and culture. Let’s not forget this is a totally preventable disease!!
2. To raise awareness in adults especially in regard to detection as early diagnosis of the disease is vital.

Collaborative members will now be working together to put in force an action plan with these specific aims.
