Using a summer pop culture moment to shine a spotlight on scalp protection and skin cancer prevention.
SKCIN is delighted to be partnering with Lidl GB on the launch of Mr SPF 30.5 – a fun and creative campaign designed to raise awareness of the importance of protecting bald heads and exposed scalps from the sun.
Inspired by Pitbull’s UK tour, where thousands of fans are expected to embrace their inner ‘Mr Worldwide’ by sporting bald caps and shaved heads, the campaign uses humour to deliver a serious health message.
The limited-edition Mr SPF 30.5 is a specially branded version of Lidl’s popular Cien SPF 30 Sun Spray and has been created to encourage people to think about protecting their scalp – one of the most commonly overlooked areas when it comes to sun protection.
The campaign comes at a crucial time. Skin cancer is the UK’s most common and fastest-rising cancer. One in every three cancers diagnosed is skin cancer and the majority occur on the head and neck. With little or no hair providing natural protection, the scalp is particularly vulnerable to the sun’s damaging UV rays.
To help spread this important message, Lidl has transformed its award-winning Cien SPF 30 Sun Spray with a playful ‘Mr SPF 30.5’ sleeve, available as part of a limited-edition Mr Bald-wide Bundle. Each bundle includes the specially branded sun spray, a pair of UV-protective aviator sunglasses and a Lidl Plus voucher offering 30% off Cien sun creams and sprays.
Just 2,500 bundles will be available from 10am on Monday 6th July via www.lidlmrspf305.co.uk, priced at an apt £3.05, with every penny donated to SKCIN to support our life-saving work in skin cancer prevention, education and early detection.
Fans travelling to Pitbull’s London concert on 10th July will also have the opportunity to pick up a free bottle of Mr SPF 30.5 at London Victoria Station between 11am and 5pm, while stocks last.
Marie Tudor, CEO of SKCIN, said:
“At SKCIN, we’re passionate about raising awareness of skin cancer prevention in ways that engage people and encourage positive behaviour change. While bald caps might be the must-have accessory for fans channelling their inner Mr Worldwide this summer, it’s important to remember that our scalps are particularly vulnerable to the sun’s harmful UV rays, with the head being one of the most common sites for skin cancer.
One in four men will be diagnosed with a form of skin cancer during their lifetime, yet around 90% of cases are preventable through simple sun-safe behaviours. By partnering with Lidl on this imaginative campaign, we’re using a cultural moment to spark conversations that could ultimately save lives.
We’re incredibly grateful to Lidl for supporting SKCIN through this campaign. Every bundle purchased helps us continue delivering vital education programmes, empowering people to protect their skin, recognise the early signs of skin cancer and reduce their risk.”
Remember to protect your scalp this summer
The scalp is one of the most common sites for skin cancer, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to sun protection. Whether you have a full head of hair, thinning hair or a shaved or bald head, protecting your scalp should be part of your daily sun-safe routine.
The best protection is to wear a wide-brimmed hat whenever possible. If any part of your scalp is exposed, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply it regularly, especially if you’re spending extended time outdoors.
Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide and Shade — and don’t forget your scalp!
